Picasso self portraits from age 15 to 90

The different self portraits by the famous Spanish artist, taken during different stages of his life.

Even such giants of art as Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso (that is his full name btw) have walked a long way till they reached the stage of art they are known for today. Picasso, famous for his cubist paintings and sculptures also didn’t use his recognizable style from early on. Bellow you can see his work, based on the self portraits he created during his career. I deliberately omitted the expression “evolution”, since Picasso didn’t see the it as a evolution at all.

In his own words:

“The different styles I have been using in my art must not be seen as an evolution, or as steps towards an unknown ideal of painting… Different themes inevitably require different methods of expression. This does not imply either evolution or progress; it is a matter of following the idea one wants to express and the way in which one wants to express it.”
