You may have seen nice sea painting before, but the works of the Russian Romantic painter Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky are on a completely different level.
Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky, born into an Armenian family in the city of Feodosia, Crimea was a prominent Russian painter, favored and sponsored even by the imperial family. His main field of expertise were marine paintings, and till today he is considered one of the greatest marine painters of all times. In his almost 60 year long carries, he painted around 6000 paintings, thus making him one of the most active artists of his time. He also gained fame outside of his motherland, when held multiple exhibitions in Europe and the United States.
Anton Pavlovich Chekhov popularized the term “worthy of Aivazivsky brush”, which was used in Russia to describe something especially beautiful. Most of Aivazovskys works today are held in Russian, Ukrainian and Armenian museums, as well es several private collections.
