De Symbolis

A photobook dedicated to the poetic work of Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi.

What do you think is the most difficult thing by creating a photobook? For me it’s choosing the right topic, the correct theme. Smiling families on a meadow, adorable children sleeping dressed as butterflies, or pets enjoying a playful afternoon is something can’t work with very well. I deal mostly in symbols, surrealism and symbols you are not meant to see, but rather feel.
And then it hit me. This is exactly something I should dedicate my newest photobook to – symbols. And what better way to underline the expressive power of symbols then through the powerful, beautiful and deeply symbolic poems of the famous 13th century poet and mystic, Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi, one of the most translated authors in the world. Firstly I thought that his poems would greatly enrich my photos, but after the book is finished, I’m starting to think that maybe it’s the other way around – maybe my photos could visualize some of the feelings that ooze from his poems.

Anyway, this one is for all of you mystics out there.
